Review - A Stepbrother Romance Series by Eve Cates

Title: StepSister Devotion Part One
Series: A Stepbrother Romance #1
Author: Eve Cates
Release Date: February 24, 2015

A Stepbrother Romance told from the male point of view.

When the world is against your love, how do you survive it?

From the moment we met, we knew there was something. Some invisible force that makes two people want the one thing they can’t have. Our parents saw it too. They kept us apart and treated me like I was some sort of deviant for being attracted to my stepsister. They told me to stay away. They warned me to leave her alone. They just made it worse.

It wasn’t me they should have been warning. Abigail was the one pursuing me.

Over the years, we’ve stayed connected in secret. It’s been a long drawn out tease. But now it’s the last summer before college, and my father and stepmother have no choice but to have us both in the house at the same time.

She wants one summer before her family obligations take over.

But I want all of her. I want to own her body and soul, and I’m not going to stop until she’s mine.

I don’t care if she’s my stepsister. I don’t care what anyone thinks. I won’t give her up.

This was a quick and dirty read. What happens when you pop a stiffy upon meeting your new stepsister? Well, you're pretty much always kept away from her. But even though Sebastian's evil stepmother has kept him and Abigail apart, they've secretly kept in contact via the internet. One summer they're not separated, and it changes everything between them.

Yep, I'll say it loud and I'll say it proud, I LOVE STEPBROTHER ROMANCES! StepSister Devotion is the introductory book in this serial that's sure to only get better with each installment. I liked that there was a bit of sexual tension built up before these two hit the sheets. Once they did, whoa baby! Smokin' hot! But beyond that there is a good plot too. I'm looking forward to sinking my teeth into the second part of this serial.

StepSister Devotion I is told entirely in Sebastian's POV. Personally I love books in the male perspective but I'm hoping Abi will narrate some of the next one because I'd love to hear her thoughts. It is a serial, so the cliffhanger is pretty much implied. All in all, a pretty good, sexy start.

Title: StepSister Devotion Part Two
Series: A Stepbrother Romance #2
Author: Eve Cates
Release Date: March 10, 2015

Forbidden love between a stepbrother and a stepsister. Told from the male point of view. 18+ due to sex scenes and language.

Deep down, I knew we were doomed. In a society where image and morals matter, we were never going to be together. She warned me, I didn't listen. And I'm broken as a result. Broken, alone, tortured by the memory of a love I can't have.

Three years later, it still hurts. Every day, it hurts to live without her. I bottle up my pain, forcing my love to turn to hatred, holding it tight in my fist, using it to fuel the lyrics to my songs, to fill my music with the pain I feel. It makes me famous. But the pain is still there. Always pain.

I'm dying without her.

When my career takes off, I'm introduced to a woman who will become my best friend. She's lived a life with secrets and she sees them in me, teaches me to let them go, and through my music, I allow my story to unfold. It takes another two years, but I begin to breathe. I begin to heal.

Then I see her, and it's like no time passed at all. The feelings are the same. But nothing has changed. I can't survive this again. I can't let her back in. I'm stronger now. I can say no. I can walk away–can't I?

I'm going to try to make this brief and spoiler free because this is part of a serial and you absolutely must read part one.

StepSister Devotion II picks up three years after part one ends. A lot has changed in Seb's life, as well as Abi's. The feelings between these two are still there, unchanged. Now there are even bigger hurdles in their path. When Seb gives Abi an ultimatum, will she choose love or duty?

I liked this installment in the A Stepbrother Romance serial much better than the first. It really delves deep into Sebastian's head and his heartache. While it's not as hot as the first part, it's definitely a good read. I'm still holding out hope that we get Abigail's POV at some point.

This is part two in a serial and cannot be read as a standalone.

Title: StepSister Devotion Part Three
Series: A Stepbrother Romance #3
Author: Eve Cates
Release Date: March 24, 2015

I asked her to make a choice and deep down, I knew what it would be–our lives didn’t go together, and they still don’t. She’s the head of a giant corporation and I’m a musician who spends months at a time on the road. We exist in different worlds and I can accept that because I’m not the boy I once was, I’m not the broken soul I once was either.

But the world is forever changing, and our professional worlds are merging. Suddenly, we’re keeping similar company. Suddenly, we’re back in each other’s orbit. Things have changed. I have changed. Now, I’m a man who knows what he wants. Now, I’m a man who won’t be playing any games. Now, I’m a man who’ll take what’s mine, and I won’t apologise–not to a single soul.

This is happening. I don’t care anymore. Abigail belongs with me–out in the open, in secret…up against the dressing room door…she belongs with me.

I’m taking what’s mine, and I won’t be sharing.

Shit. Just. Got. Real. Wow! My feelings on the first two books of this serial were that they were good, solid reads. Part three just blew me away.

We're now two more years since part two ended. Things are looking up for Sebastian professionally; he's come a long way since we met him in the beginning. Just as he's getting his life on track Abi is back, again.

This part was loaded with drama and man, did it make me want to pull my hair out that I didn't already have StepSister Devotion IV waiting for me on my Kindle. Things definitely heated up to scorching too; part two was very tame. Gimme, gimme, gimme part four! I have to know how this ends!!

Title: StepSister Devotion Part Four
Series: A Stepbrother Romance #4
Author: Eve Cates
Release Date: April 7, 2015

Just like the end of the fairy-tale tattooed on my arm, the evil queen is no more. You’d think that would mean Abigail and I could get our happy ever after, and our story would fade to black. But it’s not that easy. Now, there are people who know our secret, and are willing to use it against us. There’s a storm coming our way.

We’ve endured so much, and survived it with our relationship kept secret. But is our devotion strong enough to brave the reality of the world, an angry ex-husband, and a father who blames me for his undoing? Can we survive?

Find out what fate has in store for Sebastian and Abigail in this gripping conclusion of the Stepsister Devotion serial by debut author, Eve Cates.

After three previous installments, the A Stepbrother Romance serial has finally met its end. I enjoyed these books by Eve Cates quite a bit and as you can see from my earlier reviews, with each new part of the story, it just got better and better.

Of course, StepSister Devotion IV picks up after the heart stopping conclusion of part three. I couldn't get my hands on this one fast enough. I needed the end of Abi and Seb's story so badly.

I liked this serial quite a bit. It was a hard fought ending for these characters but left me completely satisfied as to where they ended up. I was so happy I finally got a POV from Abigail! I wanted to hear her voice so badly!

This is part four and the final book in the series, and cannot be read as a standalone. I'd give this part a rating of 4 stars. The serial as a whole, I give 4 stars.

Eve Cates is a twenty-something author of contemporary erotic romance. She loves all things naughty, demanding men and difficult situations (pass the popcorn please). Her first series, StepSister Devotion, will be told in four parts, releasing via Kindle Unlimited.

Eve has loved writing ever since she picked up her first crayon and penned a note to her imaginary friend 'Pok'. Accused of being a 'dreamer' as she grew, she's taken that notion and turned her daydreams into stories to delight and satisfy her readers.

When she isn't writing, you'll find her at home with her husband, four children, and two dogs.
