Review - Unhinge by Calia Read

Title: Unhinge
Series: Fairfax #2
Author: Calia Read
Release Date: January 12, 2015

In Calia Read’s electrifying and steamy novel of psychological suspense, a handsome stranger shatters a beautiful young woman’s picture-perfect vision of her past.

Hold your breath and count to ten. Soon it will be over before it ever began.

No matter how many times Victoria Donovan repeats that phrase to herself, she’s still trapped behind the walls of a mental institution. Once upon a time, her life was like a fantasy: Wes, the handsome fiancé, followed by a storybook wedding and a white picket fence. But then a picture-perfect marriage twisted into something sinister. And as Victoria’s world warped from dream to nightmare, her husband’s obsessions pushed her beyond the breaking point.

At first Fairfax Mental Health Institute seems like a safe place for Victoria to heal with her baby, Evelyn, and to hide from Wes, presumed dead by everyone except Victoria. Her husband is still alive, she has no doubt: He slips into her room at night to torment and tempt her. One smoldering kiss and she’s powerless. Of course, no one believes her about these visits. When she meets a sexy, mysterious stranger intent on helping her recall her past, Victoria isn’t sure she can trust him. But deep in her heart, she also knows that the only way out of Fairfax is to remember the way she came in.

I need to say this… From the very beginning, I wasn’t sure what the F&CK I was reading and then BAM, the light bulb came on and I was excited! Like, flailing about excited! Unhinge is different than anything you’ve ever read. It’s a mysterious thriller that makes you wonder if you’re the one who’s insane (in the membrane) or if you need to start the book completely over. I couldn’t stop reading. Calia Read took me on the ride of my life and I loved every minute of it!!

Hold your breath and count to ten. Soon it will be over before it ever began.

Victoria Donovan lives behind the walls of a mental institution and I felt every inch of her life there. From the nasty nurses to the extreme crazy feelings. Is she crazy? Are all of these nightmares her reality? The twist and turns of Victoria’s life lead us down a dark and dangerous road that made me wonder, ‘is this what it’s like to fall in love?’ When Victoria is faced with remembering her real life, I was both scared for her and excited to find out what the truth was.

Unhinge plays on our fear of wondering how can we ever really know another person. What makes them tick? Are they hiding something dark and disturbing beneath the surface? Am I good enough?

“This was soul sex. Where it’s less about the act and more about the feelings rushing through you. Every breath you take becomes amplified.”

Then there is this. Soul sex. This is what we all strive for in our lives. I read this over and over and over… I just couldn’t stop!

Unhinge is an extreme rollercoaster of emotion. A mysterious thriller of epic proportion which makes you question, who is more insane… Victoria or you?
