Blog Tour - Out of Time by Jen McLaughlin

 Release Date: December 3, 2013

Desperate to keep him...

I've finally gotten everything I ever wanted: love, freedom, happiness, and, most importantly, Finn. Our love is everything I expected it to be and more. We've finally found each other, but the world seems determined to tear us apart. We thought my father was the only obstacle between us, but now it's the military. With Finn’s departure looming, we’re squeezing in every moment together before we run out of time.

Trying to make every moment count…

Being Carrie’s bodyguard was one thing. Being her boyfriend is another. Every day she’s mine is a day the sun shines in my life. Yet our time together is running out. Her father will never think a tattooed Marine will be good enough so I’ll do with whatever it takes to be worthy of her love. But the road will take me away from the girl who makes me feel alive--the girl I can't live without.

Time only gets us so far...

4.5 Heart Capturing Aching Melting Stars

When Out of Line ended, you couldn’t help but shout “NOOOO” at your kindle. Finn and Carrie had just barely grasped on to a happy ending, as they finally work through a misunderstanding to become a couple. Then Finn received a phone call that delivered anything but good news, a call that could threaten to tear these two apart. Out of Time picks up right where your blood pressure spiked. Finn has the difficult task of breaking the news to Carrie about his Commanding Officer’s request for his presence at base. It is beyond heartwarming to read how much they care for one another. As worry looms over their heads as to the “Why” Finn is being summoned to base, both are solely concerned about losing the other. But both of their maturities shine through. Finn is loyal to his commitment as a Marine and while Carrie is devastatingly scared she also understands and respects Finn’s duties.
They take day by day continuing to stay strong for one another as well as continuing to keep their relationship a secret. Finn and Carrie both wish to keep the nature of their relationship hidden but for entirely different reasons. Sweet, caring, world saver Carrie, fears for the loss of Finn and his father’s job, thus sees secrecy as a way to preserve both their careers. On the other hand, poor Finn battles so much insecurity he does not believe he is worthy of a daughter of a Senator. Whereas both characters show growth, Out of Time translates more as Finn’s story (which you will hear no complaints out of this girl! I am A-Okay with this). We see a lot of Finn’s internal struggles in this story. He is the epitome of “Selfless” he wants nothing more than to be deemed “good enough” by Carrie’s father that he is determined to change himself to be accepted. It is heart-aching to read how vulnerable Finn is however, no worries ladies as much as I know you, like myself would love nothing more to offer him a shoulder (or maybe more) he has Carrie.

Carrie

For being young, inexperienced and having always been sheltered, Carrie is wise and mature beyond her years. She exhibits such a boost of confidence, strength and independence in this book. Rather than being the girl who needs to be watched out for, she becomes the one to help guide Finn. She loves Finn for him not because of his occupation or how acceptable he will look in her father’s campaign.
“I don’t think you need to be any guy but you. I love you the way you are—tattoos and all.”
“I don’t care about his fucking campaign! I care about you. About us.”
And damn if this girl isn’t right, Finn is perfect the way he is and oh so swoonworthy yummy!

Finn

As I mentioned, we see a softer side to Finn in this book. This man is intense in everything he does—his job, his commitment, his surfing and how he loves. I cannot begin to give him enough praise for how well he communicates his feelings, his fears, his insecurities to Carrie. He will melt, break and swoon your heart to the brink you will tear up.

Out of Time 1

As if these two didn’t have enough to worry about with Finn’s upcoming visit with his Commanding Officer. Carrie’s uptight, pompous, jerkface of a father Senator Wallington and her mother unexpectedly visit Carrie at school. These two must act completely casual while her parents visit. It is sad to see a couple so in love have to hide their feelings. So many times I yelled for them to come clean, but at the same time understood where both of them were coming from. I am so proud of our girl Carrie for finding her voice and speaking her mind to her parents. In regular Carrie fashion she is respectful yet clear on her opinion. She will date whom she wants not someone to further her father’s career. In addition to this independence, Carrie breaks out of her shell socially and opens up to making a new friend—her roommate Marie. This chick is a spitfire, so opposite from Carrie yet they mesh.

Jen McLaughlin definitely knows how to mess with your heartstrings. When Finn’s fate is decided for him and he has no other option but to accept a high profile assignment, get ready to bite all your nails off. All I kept thinking was why can’t this couple catch a break? Why can’t things be simpler? But then you realize this is life and Jen McLaughlin does a superb job portrayin the uncertainties, the unfairness and the obstacles of not only life but also for maintaining a relationship. Both characters hold on to the optimism for what their future will hold following Finn’s assignment. Holy heart captured, Finn’s words of comfort and promise will have you sighing “Awe” as your heart turns to mush.

Out of Time 2

The ending will have you gasping out loud! Douche Face Senator gains some brownie points toward the end but you will still give him the stink eye. Finn’s father will earn your concern. Signals are going haywire that something is going on with him but what, we do not know. What is it Mrs. McLaughlin? AND your heart will crack as the story comes to a tragic close. There is no doubt how much love Carrie and Finn have for one another but will they be able to overcome this new obstacle and take hold of their HEA?

Out of Line had my attention when it landed on my radar BUT Out of Time has me completely invested in this couple and I am ready to stalk out Jen McLaughlin’s house for more Finn + Carrie! Her genius mind leaves you with so many questions. This series is what New Adult is all about. Self-discovery, maneuvering through life and romance with fog evoking steam! Hot Damn does Mrs. McLaughlin know how to steam up your kindle screen. Whew Finn melts your heart and your panties. Not only is his body down right lickable his mouth is sexy and filthy!
