Kismet, fate, karma, destiny. Katie has literally lost everything she held dear in her life. The loss of her family has caused her to close off completely. In order to help in her recovery, her parents and brother take her home to the family farm. When the man that drove her away in the first place shows up, she's not so sure she wants to stay silent any more.
Parker has been drowning himself in booze and women ever since he told Katie to take a hike all those years ago. He knows this is his second chance to catch the one that got away and makes it his mission to recover from his alcoholism so he can be there for Katie when she needs him the most.
This story broke my heart from the beginning. As a mom I cannot imagine what poor Katie went through. I don't know if I'd survive it. This is a deeply emotional read. Full of sadness, passion, betrayal and redemption. Katie believes her family died because she deserved to be punished for her past sins, she thinks this is her Kismet.
I found Katie to be an extremely strong character in the face of her tragedy. Parker is the guy you love to hate. He pissed me off in one chapter and then made me love him in the next chapter.
This was the first time I have read an AE Woodward book, I really enjoyed this heart breaking journey. The character development was solid and the story kept you interested. I shed a few tears too.
