Review - Dirty by Kylie Scott

Title: Dirty
Series: Dive Bar #1
Author: Kylie Scott
Release Date: April 19, 2016

Love—on the rocks…

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.

Lydia Green doesn't know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it's with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.

Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she'd marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he's all wrong-maybe it's time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what's wrong with getting dirty?

I have been anxiously awaiting Kylie Scott’s Dirty since finishing up her amazing Stage Dive series. And damn, was it ever worth the wait! From the very first page, I was sucked right into Lydia and Vaughan’s story and I didn’t put Dirty down until the very last page.

Lydia and Vaughan are magic from their very first encounter—a sexy, tatted-up, naked Vaughan meets a wet, tear-stained, ripped dress, shoeless Lydia lying in his bathroom. Lydia just discovered that her fiancé was having an affair with his best friend—the BEST MAN…

With nowhere to go, and looking absolutely pitiful, Vaughan can’t help but be Lydia’s knight in shining armor, and offer up his home for her to stay temporarily. He’s fighting his own demons as well and has come home to try to gain some closure with his past to move on toward the future he’s always wanted. He wasn’t planning on crossing paths with a snarky, gorgeous woman.

I LOVED this book. Between the witty, realistic, hilarious banter between Vaughan and Lydia and their obvious connection, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out where they ended up. I adored Ms. Scott’s scene descriptions too—I could vividly picture the scenes and place myself within them watching the story unfold. Add in Vaughan’s sister, Nell, and the rest of the Dive Bar crew—Eric, Joe, Boyd and Pat, and there are numerous tales to tell in this engaging, fun, brilliantly written series.

Confession: Dirty popped my Kylie Scott cherry. While the entire Stage Dive series sits pretty on my Kindle, bought after endless glowing recommendations, I've yet to—pardon the pun—dive into them.

You can rest assured that I'll be doing that ASAFP. Because I am officially HOOKED on Ms. Scott.

Dirty was an absolute delight. In all honesty, I wasn't sure I wanted to read it when I opened my Kindle this morning. My mood wasn't great; my mind was elsewhere. That lasted all of about 30 minutes. About the time Lydia was discovered in a bathtub, I discovered that this book was absolutely one I wanted to be reading.

And the reasoning is pretty simple. The banter is exceptional. Smart-assed and sassy, the back and forth between Lydia and Vaughan felt truly authentic, a natural series of exchanges between people that just played off one another perfectly. Add to that the imagery, which made the escape of our runaway bride that much more enjoyable, and you've got a book that is a masterclass in fun, adorable, and sexy romance.

But the very best thing of all in Dirty are the people. Lydia, who I challenge you not to love with her wit, her strength, her will to move on. And her open heart. Her beautiful, wide-open heart. The secondary characters, who added the exact right amount of humor and drama to this book—Nell, Pat and Eric, oh my! Cannot wait to see where THAT goes. Jeez.

And, of course, Vaughan, who was simply divine. Hot as hell, he was my Prince Charming, no matter what he'd have to say about it. Intense, but funny. Lickable AND likeable. Cute, flirty and as dirty as the title says. He can call me babe anytime.

While the end of Dirty crept up on me a touch faster than I would have liked—and left me wishing for just a bit more—I can't deny the ache I felt in my heart as Lydia and Vaughan made their way through their whirlwind romance. I can't tell you I didn't frown and fret over what would happen, and how it could be "different". I can't lie about the smiles and laughs that this book and these people drew out of me. But I CAN say that this is one hell of good book, and the start of a series I am excited to pursue. Oh, and just the beginning of my new Kylie Scott addiction.
