Review - Roots and Wings by M. Mabie

Title: Roots and Wings
Series: City Limits #1
Author: M. Mabie
Release Date: March 28, 2016

Welcome to Wynne, population 3,401.

No billionaires. No professional athletes. No celebrities.

In this small town, current events are pondered in mirrors at the local salon or around crowded tables at the diner, and there’s a new couple to gossip about. A rough and tumble woman who works in her dad’s garage, not yet ready to spread her wings, shows the new guy in town what it’s like to finally have roots.

It’s your run-of-the-mill, sexy, Astro van driving dentist meets smart-ass, bass fishing tomboy in a story of real-life romance.

Low on drama. High on love.

Pull up a chair and stay a while.

This book feels like everything that’s good about a small town.

I mean, that’s appropriate because this book is basically about small town living, but it’s written just right. It felt like lazy rays of sunshine, tall glasses of ice-cold iced tea, fuzzy puppies asleep at your feet, and the sun setting while you fall in love—over and over and over again.

I mean, when this is part of the blurb…

It’s your run-of-the-mill, sexy, Astro van driving dentist meets smart-ass, bass fishing tomboy in a story of real-life romance.

Low on drama. High on love.

…you know you’re in for something special.

Vaughn and Mutt are freaking adorable together. I loved them. I loved how he drew her out of her tough, tomboy shell. I love how he protected her and believed in her, and loved her exactly the way she was. I loved how she opened her heart, and let all that beauty she’d been hiding in there spill out. She’s a bit rough around the edges—and it actually took me a little time to warm to her—but her heart is so big and vulnerable under all that gruff exterior. Once she opened it up, it was impossible not to love her, too.

This isn’t an explosive love story—it’s a slow, steady burn. It starts as a friendship and gradually deepens. It never feels rushed, and it never feels too slow. The drama is minimal (as promised) and not contrived, and the ending is just freaking adorable. Roots and Wings is the perfect book for lazy Sunday afternoons or rainy days; cozy, heartwarming, and completely satisfying.

M. Mabie lives in Illinois with her husband. She is the author of the steamy comedy Fade In. Her sophomore release, Bait, is the first book in the angst-filled erotic Wake Series. She writes unconventional love stories and tries to embody "real-life romance."

She cares about politics, but will not discuss them in public. She uses the same fork at every meal, watches Wayne's World while cleaning, and lets her dog sleep on her head. She has always been a writer. In fact, she was born with a pen in her hand, which almost never happens. Almost.

M. Mabie usually doesn't speak in third-person. She promises.
