Review - Operation One Night Stand by Christine Hughes

Title: Operation One Night Stand
Author: Christine Hughes
Publisher: Forever Yours
Release Date: June 2, 2015

IT'S TIME TO CHANGE HER SEXUAL KARMA

Caroline Frost had it all-until her boyfriend banged the superskank intern, and poof! Caroline's happy little bubble disappeared. Now it's been six weeks of weeping, a mountain of ice cream, and a permanent buttprint on the couch. Enough is enough. She and her ladybits need an intervention-now.

Enter Operation: One Night Stand: Find a man who is hotness personified and have some much-needed sexy time. The only problem is that Caroline is torn between a flirtatious, well-built guy and the ridiculously hot bartender serving her shots. This was supposed to be all fun and no games, but like the perfect scotch on the rocks, no good fling finishes without a twist . . .

They say the best way to get over someone is to get under someone.

Caroline Frost is in need of getting over her ex—with more than just her unhealthy relationship with Ben and Jerry. Caroline caught her ex with his pants down, literally, and after six weeks of wallowing in self-pity, Caroline’s friends, Melody and Sarah stage an intervention and hatch a plan to ensure Caroline’s lady bits don’t gather cobwebs.

So begins Operation One Night Stand—one night to let go, one night to find the hottest man in the bar, take him home, have her way with him and never see him again. Caroline is torn between the flirty hot guy at the end of the bar and the gorgeous bartender. This is supposed to be fun. One. Night. Stand. One. Night. Only. Oh, Karma, you’re such a bitch. Life is never that easy.

Karma keeps Caroline on her toes. And so do Sarah and Melody. Oh my god, I laughed so hard I spit my water on my Kindle at a couple of points. The situations these three find themselves in, the snarky, witty, bitchy banter between them all had me laughing out loud, because we all either recognize or remember parts of ourselves in their discussions. I mean really, who doesn’t remember the dreaded walk of shame home after a long night? I loved their true friendship—that they loved each other enough to set each other straight, even when the truth was going to hurt.

And let’s not forget the boys…Ryan, Brian, Danny and Drew are quite the cast of characters themselves. Their friendship is similar to the girls—another group of friends who accept each other for all their faults and don’t care. They’re there for each other regardless of the situation.

I loved this book because of their friendships, relationships and general “give each other shit and take it” attitudes. I need Operation Foreplay now…I want to spend more time hanging out with this great group of characters.

Falling in love with literature was easy for Christine Hughes. As a child, she was a voracious reader and loved to write. When it came time to go to college at Georgian Court University, choosing a major was easy - English Literature. In 1998, with a Bachelors in English Lit strapped to her hip, she wasn't sure which avenue to take - until she worked part time presenting life skills to elementary school children. It was in a school in Camden, NJ when she ran into a little boy - pants ripped, backpack falling apart - with his nose in a Harry Potter book. The way he obviously coveted the book made her realize, 'I want to do that.' She wanted to encourage the love of reading in others that Christine had all her life.

She went back to school and earned her teacher's certificate and became a middle school English teacher. After nine years teaching others to appreciate literature, Christine decided to take the plunge and write her first novel, TORN - a YA paranormal re-released by Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing in August 2013. The sequel, Darkness Betrayed was released by the same publisher in September 2013 and her third novel, a stand-alone NA Contemporary, was re-released by CHBB in December 2013. Though she loved writing for the YA set, she really found her love with Three Days of Rain - writing for more mature audiences. And though she loves it, Three Days of Rain was heart wrenching to write and she found herself drawn back into romance with a fun voice. Novels like Bridget Jones's Diary, The Devil Wears Prada and Lipstick Jungle were always fun to her. Summer days reading fun prose that wasn't meant to save the world - that's what she wanted to write. So she did and had more fun writing Target Practice - Operation: One-Night Stand than ever.

Christine currently stays home to write while her husband works and her two boys attend elementary school. Don't bother her too much during football season - she's either cheering on her boys or crying in her pint glass over yet another Jets loss.
