EXCERPT
“Why don’t we sit and we can continue our talk?” I motioned to the four cream arm chairs around a frosted glass coffee table.
Bay nodded and took a seat.
I dropped into one across from her.
She nibbled her bottom lip. “Are you sure you don’t want anything to eat or drink?”
“I’m good.”
“Maybe for later?” A hopeful edge to her voice.
“I’m sure you’re really busy, so I won’t keep you, but there are some more things I wanted to say.” Things I needed to say to stop being afraid to show her how screwed up I’d been. The fear of her finding out had made me panicky, on edge, and I needed to release all of that to move on. I needed to prove to myself that I could move on, even if every cell in my body screamed to touch her again.
Her palms pressed together and she wedged them between her thighs, scooting to the edge of her chair and nodding for me to go ahead. Her heels bounced up and down, but her gaze was locked onto mine.
My heart raced, but I held onto it and all the words I needed to say. I licked my lips. This was just as hard as those first words I’d needed to say to her back in California.
