Review - Mastered by Maya Banks

Title: Mastered
Series: The Enforcers #1
Author: Maya Banks
Release Date: December 29, 2015

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Breathless Trilogy comes the first novel in the Enforcers series—a bold new direction in erotic romance that explores the games men and women play, and the price they’re willing to pay for pleasure.

What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.

She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.

What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.

The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

I’m a huge Maya Banks fan and Mastered was a fun, quick read. I love Drake Donovan and his quirks. Truly, I love his boys more… I want to read all about Maddox, Silas, Justice, and the dark and dangerous lot of them. They are insanely hot, caring, scary and so much more! I’m ready to peel back the layers. But back to the situation at hand…

Evangeline is the classic woman. Wondering if she’s “enough” for any man after a bad relationship. Her girls push her to put herself out there and head to an exclusive club. What they don’t anticipate is her finding an amazing man on that adventure. Drake Donovan can’t accept that some a$hole has his hands all over Evangeline.

Drake has secrets to hide, but when it comes to Evangeline, he allows her into his inner sanctum. This book is full of sex (hot sex)—some of it even pushing societal norms and the finer things in life. If you’re a fan of the alpha male, who’s rich and spends his money like water this book is for you!!!
~ Review by Heather

Evangeline Hawthorn is beautiful, innocent, and oh, so delectable to one Drake Donovan. The moment Drake laid eyes on Evangeline, he wanted her—wanted her submission. Evangeline has been burned in the past, but there’s something about Drake that she just can’t refuse. She’s ready to give in to him, but will her naiveté and overall niceness be her downfall? Can she really trust Drake to take care of her—and willingly surrender to a man who she really knows nothing about?

I love Maya Banks and her characters and storylines; she never fails to draw me in, making me a bit hot and bothered in the process. I really wanted to love this book, but I just ended up liking it a lot. I really liked both Drake and Evangeline as well as the rest of the gang: Maddox, Justice, Silas, Thatcher, Jax, and Hatcher. Drake and Evangeline’s storyline is melt-your-panties hot and she has the rest of Drake’s boys eating out of her hand. Their protective instincts are in overdrive.

But, I found the story dragged a bit. I think the relatively cliffy ending could have been reached sooner…maybe even a conclusion of their story, too, instead of adding a second book. However, I am looking forward to see where Ms. Banks takes their story and resolves the ending. Damn it, how could she end it like that???

Review - Darkest Before Dawn by Maya Banks

Title: Darkest Before Dawn
Series: KGI #10
Author: Maya Banks
Release Date: October 27, 2015

THE ALL-NEW KGI NOVEL from the “incredibly awesome" (Jaci Burton) #1 New York Times bestselling author of When Day Breaks.

The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super-elite, top secret, family-run business.
Qualifications: High intelligence, rock-hard body, military background.
Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the U.S. government can’t...

The enigmatic Hancock has been both opponent and ally to the KGI teams for as long as they've known him. Always working a deep game, Hancock's true allegiance has never been apparent, but one thing is for certain—he never lets anything get in the way of duty.

But now, his absolute belief in the primacy of his ultimate goal is challenged by a captive he's been ordered to guard, no matter how much she suffers in her prison. She's the only woman who's ever managed to penetrate the rigid walls surrounding his icy heart, but will he allow his perplexing feelings for the beautiful victim to destroy a mission he's spent years working to complete or will he be forced to sacrifice her for “the greater good.”

Hancock is an enigma. Duty bound and tired of fighting the same bad guys, he won't let anything interfere with or dissuade this mission—not when he and his team are so close to achieving their goal. "The good of the many takes priority over the good of the one"—their team motto will be upheld.

That is, until Hancock and his team rescue Honor Cambridge. Honor somehow manages to get under Hancock's skin and he's beginning to question "the greater good" because he doesn't know how he's going to sacrifice Honor and his feelings for her in the end…

I was so excited to have the opportunity to read this book. I really wanted to love it—and I did love the last 25%, but getting through the first 75% was tough.

I loved both Honor and Hancock. Together, their sexy sparks were amazing. While the tales of Hancock and Honor and what led them to get together we're interesting, the story really didn't come together until the rest of the KGI cast of characters were brought in to "save the day" too, so to speak. But it was almost too little, too late.
