The warm evening sun beats down on my shoulders as I chat with Ashley and her group of girlfriends. My brain is on overdrive as I take in their varying sizes of baby bumps. Do not drink the water. I set down the plastic bottle and grab a glass of champagne instead. Much safer.
Ashley frowns. “That’s rude.”
“Please.” I smirk. “You wouldn’t know rude if it smacked you in the face. You realize you’ve been talking non-stop about sex for twenty minutes, and I haven’t gotten any in over nine months.”
“Oh, honey.” Veronica pats my arm. “That sucks. I should know. Before Devin and I got together, I was celibate for almost three years and pregnant for nine of those months.”
“Three years,” I choke and raise the glass to my lips. There’s no way in hell I can last three years. My spiel to Austin was total bullshit. I miss sex. I miss rough, calloused hands sliding along my skin. Firm thighs slamming against the backs of my legs. And a mouth and tongue devouring my sex. I convulse. I miss it more since I met Austin.
I’m about to come unglued between his endless string of memes and movie quotes and my vibrator going on the fritz. Two days shipping has always been my friend. Until the light stopped glowing on my rabbit, and now two days seems like a never-ending chemistry class. I’m about to drive up to the warehouse myself and collect my order.
Buzz. Buzz. My cellphone vibrates in my hand. And just like a crack addict that can’t be away from my fix for ten seconds, I swipe the screen.
Austin: Just how I pictured you.
Heat floods my body. Is he here? Why didn’t he tell me he was coming?
