Meredith Knight is at the top of her game.
As the lead evening anchor on her local news affiliate, she’s successful and in love…
with her job.
So what if I thought I’d be married with two kids and a white picket fence by now? I have my friends, my family, an amazing penthouse apartment, and I’m in the best shape of my life.
Just ask the photographer of my birthday boudoir photoshoot.
Turning thirty is going to be a piece of cake.
Okay, I’ll admit, there is one thing missing from my near-perfect life. My co-anchor, Jack Stone, has never seen me as anything more than a colleague. But I’ve been falling for him since the day we met. So when my friends throw me an epic birthday bash, I make a secret wish when I blow out my candles.
Let Jack see me.
Just as my birthday wish comes true, in the most embarrassing way possible, our station hires a new producer who’s determined to ruin my life.
Killian O’Malley is hot and tattooed with an Irish accent that makes me weak in the knees, and, uh, some other places. Too bad he’s also an arrogant, domineering jerk.
Turning 30 is turning out to be a hell of a lot harder than I expected...
“Ice cream solves everything.”
Killian looks at me as if I’ve declared that the moon is made of whipped cream. “How do you figure?”
“Because it’s sinfully sweet and just cold enough to block out anything painful.” I lick my spoon slowly, savoring the last of the salty caramel sauce with my tongue. His gaze falls to my mouth and I see it—a hunger in his eyes almost as intense as the irritation I’m accustomed to.
Killian O’Malley thinks I have cotton candy for brains, but it isn’t my brain he’s concerned with at the moment.
He swallows thickly, his cobalt blue eyes never leaving mine. “So ice cream is the cure for war, world hunger, and global warming then?” He’s mocking me but I’m getting used to this patronizing tone from him.
Shrugging, I pluck the cherry from my sundae and lick it clean before eating it.
“No, but with all the bad in the world don’t we deserve something sweet? Something wholly indulgent to lose ourselves in—even if only for a little while?” I take another bite while he contemplates this. My tone is light but my words appear to weigh heavily on him. The cold on my tongue shocks my senses, blissfully numbing my mind for a split second. “Besides, how could anyone be upset about anything with all this goodness and perfection in their mouth?”
Smirking, his features contort from hostile man to mischievous boy. I’ve never seen this expression on him before. It’s jarring—alarmingly sexy and unsettling.
So low I can barely make out his words, he dips his head and arches one dark brow. “That’s what she said.”
