She stepped forward and turned her rigid back on me. "Thank you for escorting me home. You can leave now."
"Turn around."
"Why?"
"Because I said so."
With a frustrated sigh, she turned around. Her lower lip thrust out in a pout.
"I want a kiss before I leave."
She blinked. "What?"
"You heard me."
"What if I say no?"
I stroked her lower lip with the pad of my thumb. "I'd take one anyway."
"Why are you doing this? Do you think I owe you some kind of payment for the broken glasses?"
She walked over to a kitchen cupboard and pulled down an earthenware jug with a metal lid. She threw off the lid and dumped the contents onto the table. There was a small stack of neatly folded euros and a handful of coins. She gestured to the pile with disgust. "Here! Here is your payment. Take it and leave."
In this exact moment, I couldn't decide if I deserved her anger or not.
But truthfully, I didn't give a damn.
