Review - Into My Arms by Lia Riley

Title: Into My Arms
Series: Off the Map #3.2
Author: Lia Riley
Release Date: September 8, 2015

“You’re here because I want to touch you.”

Beth Jacobs spends her days slogging away in a corporate “fish bowl,” as the hard-working assistant for one of North America’s youngest dot-com billionaires. Aleksander “Z” Zavtra is the definition of dark and dangerous with a sexy Eastern European snarl. He’s also ruthless. Curt. Exacting. An infuriating man she loves to hate. While Beth hardly sees him, it’s as if he’s always watching her . . .

Z doesn’t do romance. But he never expected to be captivated by a whip-smart, fiery assistant who just so happens to share an uncanny resemblance to the beautiful face that haunts his dreams. He craves Beth. He wants to stroke her skin, to feel her heat beneath him. And what Z wants, he gets. And for one weekend, the lines between employer and employee are blurred as Z and Beth give themselves completely to the dark pleasures they’ve both been dreaming about.

Ugh, I think this is the end of the Off the Map series and am pretty much totally bummed by that. Not that this novella isn't fantastic, but...I don't want it to be over yet.

Bethanny Jacobs works for the most closed-off, controlling, infuriating, brilliant young billionaire in America; one that's solely communicated via electronic means...until now.

Aleksander Zavtra, 'Z' to the world, is fascinated by his executive assistant, a woman that reminds him of a heart-breaking past. A woman he's been watching for months.

He doesn't do love. He doesn't do touch. But for one hot weekend, this employer is going to take his employee into his arms...and his bed.

Well, this story wasn't what I expected, but that's a good, good thing. I really enjoyed this seductive tale; one that's a little dark, and a lot dirty, with a side of 'whoa'.

Into My Arms was a fast-paced and extremely quick read, with what I felt was a slightly too abrupt ending, but that didn't take away from my overall love of Beth and Z's story. Because they were good together.

He was demanding, but she wasn't cowed by him, which I loved. She was in too deep in life, but she didn't use him or let him take over, which worked in her favor. He opened up and she listened, despite a plot that many books would likely use to blow everything to shit. Maturity, I like it.

All in all, I closed this one extremely happy with how it played out. But not with the fact this series is over. *crosses arms* Humph.
~ Review by Beth

Aleksander "Z" Zavtra is a rich, reclusive, man of mystery. He's had his eye on his assistant, Beth Jacobs, for ages. Beth has always been curious about the curt, ruthless man with the Eastern European accent, so when he asks to meet her, and then spend time with her in person - she's not sure what to make of it all.

HOT. DAMN. This book was steamy. Z is cool and calculating, and it's fun to watch him warm at Beth's hand. There's a tremendous amount of push-pull in their relationship, but it's written like foreplay. By the time the two figure things out, it's explosive. It's also enough time to develop a real connection. After learning about his past, Beth has real affection and concern for Z. She's willing to fight for him. He, in turn, is willing to let her in. They just...WORK...together.

My ongoing problem with novellas is that they're too short. Just when I felt like things were going to take off, Into My Arms wound down. I wanted more! I wanted to watch Beth OWN Z. I wanted to dig deeper into Z's psyche. I wanted more Bran and Z time because that shit is just hilarious.

But…I understand that this is the nature of the novella and I was glad to have met both Beth and Z previously in the series so not much back story was required. They're perfect together. They fire each other up and challenge each other, while also soothing the wounds both have carried around for a lifetime. And the ending, though rather abrupt, is simply adorable.

After studying at the University of Montana-Missoula, Lia Riley scoured the world armed with only a backpack, overconfidence, and a terrible sense of direction. She counts shooting vodka with a Ukranian mechanic in Antarctica, sipping yerba mate with gauchos in Chile, and swilling XXXX with stationhands in Outback Australia among her accomplishments.

When not torturing heroes (because, c'mon, who doesn't love a good tortured hero?), Lia and her family live mostly in Northern California, herding unruly chickens, camping, beach combing, daydreaming about as-of-yet unwritten books, wading through a mile-high TBR pile, and scheming yet another trip.

Title: Carry Me Home
Series: Off the Map #3.1
Author: Lia Riley
Release Date: May 5, 2015

Love doesn’t have to be perfect to be true…

Years ago, Tanner Green loved Sunny Letman. She was meant to be his first kiss, first love, first everything. Then their world spun upside-down and out of control.

Free-spirited Sunny doesn’t do commitment. Sure, guys are great for a night or a week, but she always leaves first. That is, until professional skateboarder and town golden boy, Tanner Green, unexpectedly walks back into her life.

Despite their broken history, a fragile and undeniably electric connection still holds them together. Now Tanner has to convince Sunny that even though love isn’t always perfect, it’s worth sticking around for. . .

This series sucked me in with no hope of spitting me back out. I knew I would love the latest novella, Carry Me Home; I didn't realize how much I would love it though. This book sucked me into a rabbit hole of the greatest proportions. I finished the book practically begging for more. Lia has me wondering how she'll be able to top this extremely sexy, twisted and deeply devoted love story.

Lia Riley's Off the Map series is one of my absolute favorites, so getting my hands on this excellent novella was a genuine treat. And Carry Me Home was, like the other books I've loved so, pure perfection.

Sunny Letman doesn't do boyfriends. Sex, yes. Commitment, no. But when Tanner Green walks back into her life, years after they fell apart, she starts to question her commitment to non-commitment.

For Tanner, Sunny represents what should have been. His first everything. Despite their heartbreaking pasts, he's convinced that she can still be his everything...if he can just get through to her.

Ms. Riley is an amazing writer. This novella reads like a full-length book, a fully formed and executed story from start to finish. Did it end too soon? Yes, but only because I fell for Sunny and Tanner and wanted to read about them forever. But did it feel incomplete or rushed, as novellas sometimes do? Hell. No.

Carry Me Home was filled with all the things I loved about the first three Off the Map books. Humor, sass, some seriously steamy sex and a giant helping of angst and tension. Sunny and Tanner were perfectly imperfect; a little jaded, a lot guilty and completely unsure of themselves and each other. But Ms. Riley led them home in a believable, real and raw manner, and damn, if I didn't love every single second.

I can only hope that this series continues in some form in the future. Maybe for Beth, maybe more Sunny and Tanner, maybe more Talia and Bran. Whatever, however, whenever it (*fingers crossed*) happens, I'll be first in line to one-click.

More Carry Me Home, please! Damn, this book was sexy and sweet and quite literally unputdownable.

We first met Tanner and Sunny in Upside Down. Sunny is Talia’s plucky best friend and Tanner -- well, we didn’t really meet him, exactly. We heard about him and, frankly, we didn’t hear nice things.

I absolutely adored Sunny and Tanner together. I loved getting an inside look into some of the more catastrophic events that happened in Upside Down. I loved learning Tanner’s motivations and watching him evolve. I adored Sunny. She’s so broken and scared, but also tough and fiery.

These two together are combustible. Like, jaw open, tongue hanging out, breathing a little faster than what is normal – combustible.

This book ended too quickly for me. I could have read 500 more pages on this awesome couple! But I loved every page I got to read.

Blog Tour - Inside Out by Lia Riley

Title: Inside Out
Series: Off the Map #3
Author: Lia Riley
Release Date: December 2, 2014

Lia Riley made New Adult readers fall in love with her breakout debut, Upside Down. Sideswiped, the second of her series, made readers clamor for more. Now, with INSIDE OUT, Lia Riley brings her evocative Off the Map series to a stunning conclusion.

When Talia first moved from California to Australia to study abroad, she never dreamed she'd find the love of her life. Bran understands her like no one ever has before. And despite the numerous challenges they've faced, they've always managed to figure out how to stay together. But this time they'll face their toughest hurdle yet. Is their love strong enough to keep them together?

Um, say it isn't so!! The Off The Map series is over? I'm not cool with the because I LOVE BRAN AND TALIA. I guess I'll just have to re-read these books over and over until I get my fill...

Despite the challenges that they've faced, Bran and Talia are determined to prove every one (including themselves) wrong. They've reached a compromise to make their long distance love work, but when life throws even more at them, will their love be enough to keep them together?

How do these books keep getting better?? I've read series before where I've started to tire of the main characters, or where the story seems to stagnate, but not the Off The Map books. No, this series is better at book three than it was at book one - and I ADORED Upside Down.

Bran and Talia are perfectly imperfect, and that makes them real and really enjoyable. I love their quick banter, their back-and-forth playfulness, and although there were some heavy moments in Inside Out, it never lost that lightness.

This book deals with internal torment, what it's like when your mid (and your body) betray you and leave you feeling weak and useless, and it's so genuine and so true, it was (almost) hard for me to read and (definitely) hard for me to walk away from. I want to be friends with Talia, so I can comfort her. Support her. And maybe steal her sexy Aussie boyfriend.

Bran is just amazing. He's patient with Talia, he's sweet, loving and understanding - but it's all hidden under his gruff, grumpy exterior and Lia Riley manages to make even that seem desirable.

Inside Out is so well written, it just flows off the page. It's easy to get lost in this book and in these characters, and I'm absolutely going to miss them. Maybe one day Ms. Riley will spoil us with a little more Bran and Talia, but until then I'll make do. And say thank you, for this wonderful trilogy.

Inside Out is the third and final book in the Off The Map series. No cliffhanger.

Who was I when I first fell in love with Bran?
A person who had courage to stare down an unfeasible situation and say, Sure, I’m up for the challenge.
Who was I when Bran threw himself at me like a wounded animal, all claws, abandonment fear, spit, and fang?
A person who accepted that the moon has two sides, light and dark.
Who am I now?
I feel like a lost soul rocking in the corner, fresh out of ideas.
Bran pushes me through the long line until it’s our turn at the passport desk.
“How long do you plan to stay in the United States?” The customs official glances from Bran’s face to his passport photo and back again.
My stomach squirms like a writhing snake. We’ve avoided any discussion about future plans, focused instead on the short term. I had to accept the reality that I couldn’t return to the Peace Corps, even with the medical separation. I was too sick, too shattered. Our discussions about the logistics of leaving Africa were easier to concentrate on than the looming issue of what we were going to do with each other. I treated the topic like an abandoned lot, filled with weeds and rusting cars, a subject to walk past and pretend to ignore.
Now a stranger is forcing the issue.
“Until this one gets better.” Bran cocks his head in my direction.
The woman scoots forward, peers at me with a faint frown. “May I see proof of a return ticket, sir?”
Bran digs out the photocopy of his itinerary. When we bought the tickets, he had to borrow money from his dad. He hasn’t said much, but I know the fact must eat at him. Add another bitter drop to my guilt bucket—soon it’s going to overflow.
“You’re on a temporary tourist visa.” The customs agent flips the passport to a blank page and stamps with obvious relish. “You have three months, starting now.”
Here we go again.
Visa issues.
Ticking clocks.
People imagine international romance is excitement, hot accents, and adventure. They don’t want to hear about the bureaucratic drudgery that threatens to harden the arteries of even the most passionate hearts.
I thought I was going somewhere.
Nope.
I am an idiot Icarus who flew too close to the sun.
Bran leans forward, his lips hover an inch from my ear, his breath a hot caress on my cool skin. “You okay, Captain?”
“Fine.”
“What are you thinking, thinker?”
“I’m just sitting here, a sitter.”
We roll past an American flag overhanging a framed photo of the president. His smile seems smug, as if to say, You really thought you’d get away?
Yes, sir. I kind of did.
“We’re up next.” Bran hands a final customs form to yet another officer who waves us toward big silver doors that open and shut like gnashing teeth. On the other side is California. I can’t shake the disorienting sense we’re heading in the wrong direction.
“Ready?”
Nope.
Bran crossed an ocean for me. I have to find the way out of this black swamp, but I’m manacled to an island of self-doubt, and the tide is rising.
