Review Tour - Sidelined by Emma Hart

Title: Sidelined
Series: By His Game #2
Author: Emma Hart
Release Date: March 2, 2015

Three people. Three motives. Three reasons.

When the game leaves the field in the second book in the USA Today bestselling BY HIS GAME series and mixes with sex, lies, and betrayal, the future isn't the only thing on the line...

Macey Kelly has sworn off men. Unless they’re going to zip in and out of her apartment—and her vagina—quicker than they can give her an orgasm, she’s not interested. Finding out her boyfriend of three years got her cousin pregnant was a total confidence knock. Luckily for Macey, confidence is something she has in abundance, so all Mitch’s asshole move did was make her pretty cynical toward men.

The last thing Jack Carr needs at the start of the season is for a dark-haired, sexy as sin, gyspyesque beauty to be consuming his thoughts. Football is his life, which leaves no time for girls. Unless they’re the love ‘em and leave ‘em girls. Becoming one of the best running backs the league has ever seen by racking up the yards is his top priority… not bedding Macey Kelly, despite her affinity for blow jobs and total sexual abandon.

Avoiding each other is the perfect solution, but when your best friends are in a serious living together kind of relationship, that isn’t always an option. Sometimes, sex on tap is the easiest option. And the sweetest.

Until Mitch shows up with a bombshell that could shatter Macey’s perfectly carved out life. It’s been a year, but he isn’t giving her up, not now he has a chance at winning her back. And he knows her buttons. Every single one of them.

Unfortunately for him, Jack Carr isn’t a loser. The star running back has his eye on the Vince Lombardi—and on Macey. But seeing her hanging between them both isn’t something he’s down with, not when he discovers why she’s so against anything more-ish, as she puts it.Macey quickly realizes she’s the ball being passed between two desperate yet opposing teams, and that only one of them can score the touchdown. But will the winner be the guy she lived with and loved for three years, or will the winner be the guy who understands her and makes her body come alive?

In this game, someone will be sidelined, and calling the play isn’t always as easy as it seems.

SIDELINED is a full-length, standalone novel. It's not necessary to read BLINDSIDED before this book, but it is advised.

I'm totally in love with Emma Hart. Damn, this girl knows how to write a book that sizzles, that makes you smile, that's smart and interesting, and that makes you wish that characters were real and that you could really slap some sense into them.

Jack Carr is the star running back for the LA Vipers, and not looking for anything more than a good time girl. Football is his priority, not relationships, not after being burned by love before.

Macey Kelly knows all about being burned by love. Her ex knocked up her cousin and took off to play daddy, and she was left trying to work out what happened to her 5-year plan.

When Macey and Jack get together, they burn up. And because neither one wants anything more than hot sex, it's perfect. Until Macey's ex returns to try to win her back, throwing her life into disarray. Now Jack and Macey are trying to navigate a relationship that's more than sex, and Macey's trying to decide if three years of history is worth more than chemistry that sets her body on fire.

I could not put this book down! I loved Macey and Jack in their brief, but memorable, moments in Blindsided and was really keen to see how the player and the good time girl would come together. And come together they did! The characters played off each other really well. I enjoyed the way they flirted with each other - and with the true nature of their relationship. Although I was, at times, beyond annoyed with both Macey and Jack for their silly, immature decision making, it just worked, for the story and for me.

Added bonus? Fun little interludes with Corey and Leah from Blindsided, Ryann (who needs a book), Corey (who should be in Ryann's book) and Reid (who also needs a book). I love the way the secondary characters work into the story - Macey's family, new additions in this book, were excellent, in particular. They humanized her, made her sometimes silly thoughts and plans and her indecisiveness in the face of BLATANT OH-MY-GOD OBVIOUSNESS seem more realistic.

Despite my aforementioned frustration with Macey, I did love her ballsy-ness. She was sassy and spoke her mind, and she was an excellent foil for Jack, who was just plain YUMMY. I loved him!! I, like M, know nothing about football, but I bet Jack could persuade me to learn...if only he were real.

Sidelined in the second book in the By His Game series and can be read standalone. No cliffhanger.

~ Review by Beth

After her last debacle, uh, relationship, resulted in her long term boyfriend getting her cousin pregnant, Macey Kelly, has sworn off men. Well, okay, not sworn men off completely—she’s happy to deal with them for a night of “wham bam thank you ma’am sex” but nothing more. No relationships, no strings—just sex.

Enter Jack Carr. Oh, Jack. *swoon* Jack is a busy man. Busy getting ready for football season to start. Busy getting into the pants of any woman he wants for a night. But when Jack finds all his thoughts are now taken up by the dark-haired beauty, who happens to be the best friend of his best friend's girl, Jack can’t avoid it anymore--he wants is Macey.

Macey and Jack are status quo in their f@ck buddy relationship until Mitch re-enters the picture. Mitch, yeah, the douchebag ex who got the cousin pregnant. He’s back to stir up feelings and trouble. Jack does not take this sitting down. Jack is a running back—a playmaker and he’s playing to win. Can Macey figure out her feelings to decide whether she’s brave enough to look to the future or is she going to settle for what she knows from her past?

I loved this book. I loved Jack—his personality traits, his ability to admit he’s screwed up and doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing in a relationship, make him a dream book boyfriend! And Macey—part of you wants to hug her and the other part wants to slap her, but damn, she’s just a great character too! Add in Leah and Corey, Ryann, Reid and Cole and you’ve got a group I’d love to hang out with every weekend.

Sidelined is Book 2 in the By His Game series. It can be read as a standalone. No Cliffhanger.

“You’re not goin’ anywhere, baby.” He steps closer, his fingers twitching, his breath ghosting across my neck. “At least, you ain’t fuckin’ moving until you’ve told me why you’re avoiding me.”

“Isn’t it obvious? You and I are cut from the same cloth, Jack. We don’t do the post-sex thing.”

“Yet here we are.”

“It’s unfortunate.”

“That what you call it?” he laughs, low and husky.

“Yep.” I drink.

“Put the drink down, M,” he whispers. “It’s fucking with you.”

“Really? I thought that was you fucking with me,” I respond, turning to him and pressing a hand against his chest. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Like, right here. Literally.

“It’s my best friend’s birthday.” He smirks. “Why’ve you been staring at me all night like you wanna suck and bite my cock simultaneously?”

“I assure you it was the latter.”

“Sure it was.” Jack steps closer to me again, and I grab my glass with the hand closest to him so I don’t grab his ass or something, ‘cause, shit. He has a sweet-as-hell ass.

“It was.” I drink. Again. Where the hell are my girls? “I feel like dancing.” I finish the glass and twist my body away from his.

His hand finally falls from me as I stalk toward and then down the stairs. I slip into the moving crowd, but I’ve barely moved my hips when two large, strong hands clasp me and tug me backward. The wall of muscle my back slams into is solid, and I exhale on a whoosh even as I close my fingers against the ones clasping my hips.

“Nice try, baby,” Jack says into my ear. “Run if you want. I’m a running back. I’ll chase you and catch you every fuckin’ time.”

“Sounds like a promise you can’t keep, doll,” I reply, my breath catching when he moves my hips against his.

“Sounds like a promise you’re afraid of.”

Welcome to death tripping.

A thriller, a paranormal, and a passionate romance, CLEAR crosses genres and breaks boundaries.

Hooked. That's what happened to me as soon as I read the first few pages of this book. Jessica Park has such an an amazing storytelling ability. I have to give her props because, what in the ever loving hell did I just read?! This book was all kinds of messed up, in a good way. And this is what I freaking love about indie authors. You can't compartmentalize their work. It doesn't fit in a neat little box. It's so unique. So different. So unbelievably original. Yeah, I'm a walking thesaurus. I can honestly say, this book is unlike anything I've ever picked up.

I'm not going to even try to summarize this one for fear of giving anything away. I will say this book has a little bit of everything. Romance, paranormal elements, nail biting suspense and some smokin' hot love scenes. I was so immersed in this book I didn't want to come up for air. It's that damn good.

Clear is by far the best book Jessica Park has ever put out there, and I love her others, so I don't say that lightly. This book is solid gold!

Review Tour - Filthy Beautiful Lust by Kendall Ryan

Title: Filthy Beautiful Lust
Series: Filthy Beautiful Lies #3
Authors: Kendall Ryan
Release Date: November 10, 2014

goodreads

From New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Kendall Ryan, comes the third book in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series.

Pace Drake loves sex. He knows where get it, what to say, what to do, and he makes no apologies for satisfying his needs. But when he meets single mom, Kylie Sloan, he's enthralled by her, and begins to question his standard operating procedure. After all, there's no chase, no mystery when banging a woman in a nightclub bathroom. Kylie's depth and determination make the sloppy, drunken hookups that fill his weekends seem empty and shallow. She's the opposite of the desperate, clingy women he's used to. She doesn’t want or need anyone to take care of her and that only makes him want to care for her more.

Kylie's trust in men has vanished. The last guy she was with played ding-dong-ditch-it with her uterus and left her with a baby to raise. Now her infant son is the only man she has time for, even if she misses sex and intimacy more than she'd ever admit. Opening her heart up to a younger man who's best known for no-strings-attached sex and his casual lifestyle is probably the worst idea she's ever had. But Pace wants to prove to her there are still a few good guys left, and watching the sweet way he interacts with her baby makes her want to try…but she can really trust that his days of hitting it and quitting it are in his past?

Filthy Beautiful Lust is the third book in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series, however it can be read as a standalone novel (no cliffhanger). To understand the full growth and development of the characters, it is recommended that you begin with book 1, Filthy Beautiful Lies.

Oh Pace… We met both Pace and Kylie in Colton and Sophie’s stories, and I was so excited that they were going to get a book! I enjoyed their story even more than Colton’s, but I still loved seeing Colton, Sophie, and the rest of the gang throughout this entire book.

Kylie is a single mom whose baby daddy left her the moment she found out she was pregnant. Pace is a playboy – a hit-it-and-quit-it kind of guy – and Colton’s younger brother. However, something about Kylie speaks to him and the fact that she has a son makes him like her even more.

Kylie has a hard time opening up to anyone, but is especially distrustful with young, sexy, wealthy men.

“I have personal experience with men like him. They’re looking for no-strings sex. And considering the last guy I was with played ding-dong-ditch-it with my uterus, and left me with a baby to raise, I’m more than a teensy bit skeptical about men like him.”

Pace has never had a woman say no to him, and that makes Kylie even more special. Slowly and carefully, Pace breaks down Kylie’s walls and gets her to accept him into her and Max’s lives.

The dynamic between Pace and Max is the best part of this story! Having two young boys myself, I felt that emotion Kylie would get seeing the two of them together. There is nothing sexier than a man who is good with kids.

I love a good playboy turned a one-woman man story and that is exactly what Filthy Beautiful Lust is. It was sexy, sizzling, funny, and emotional!

“That’s it baby.” Pace’s big hand curls around my hip, guiding my movements. “Ride it like you own it,” he says, bringing his mouth to mine.

I finished it in just a few hours because I could not put it down! I am looking forward to Collins’ story. 5 stars

When we first met Pace in Filthy Beautiful Lies, I couldn't wait to read more about him.  I was so excited to find out he was getting his own book.

Pace is a player, and only sleeps around.  He doesn't have relationships.  So when he meets Kylie, a single mom of a baby boy, he's in for something he isn't used to.  Pace is attracted to Kylie right away, and when she turns him down, he doesn't know what to do.  He isn't used to rejection.

Kylie is definitely attracted to Pace, but runs the other way because of her past history with relationships. Her son's father left her when she was pregnant, and now she has a hard time with trusting men.  She knows that if she is going to be in a relationship again, she needs someone stable and ready for something serious.  Pace isn't what she is looking for, but can she resist him?

Even though Kylie pushes Pace away, Pace doesn't give up.  He keeps coming around and ends up being there when she finally needs someone else to help her; even if she believes she doesn't need help. Pace is so great with her son, Max.  When someone from the past threatens Pace's place in Kylie's life he pulls out all the stops to prove to her that they should be together.

I absolutely loved this book, and I couldn't help but devour it.  After reading Filthy Beautiful Lust, Pace has become my favorite of the Drake brothers.  Now I can't wait to read about Collins! 5 Stars

~ Review by Leah

This is the third book in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series and Ms. Ryan just keeps topping herself! I started this book in the wee hours of the morning, and could not put it down. Yes, I snuck in a few pages during work because it had me all worked up; I just had to find out what was going to happen!

Pace Drake, a gorgeous playboy, has never had the itch to settle down…until he really starts noticing Kylie.

Sweet, caring Kylie only has eyes for one man in her life and that's Max, her 1 year old son. Ever since her heart was shattered by the one she thought loved her, Kylie has avoided all men, especially men like Pace.

Colton, Pace's brother, warns him to leave Kylie alone because she's not one of his fu*k-them-and-leave-them conquests, but rather someone that deserves the world and a HEA. Pace knows that he will have to show Kylie that he can be that man, and goes above and beyond to prove that to her. What really made me chuckle is how he used Max to get to Kylie in doing so!

Despite it all, Kylie still has reservations because of the heartache that she's gone through. Not only does she not think Pace really wants her, especially since she has "baggage", she is also nothing like the woman Pace usually has.

I must say Pace has quite a mouth on him, one that is not only used on words, but other things as well...**coughs** The interaction between Pace and Kylie is beautiful, intense, scorching hot and swoonworthy! *Sighs* To be honest, I wanted MORE of Kylie and Pace. Ms. Ryan, please tell me there will be more of this beautiful couple! 5 Scorching Hot Stars

First let me tell you, if you have not read Irreparably Broken and Irreversible Damage (also by K.J. Bell), read them first. I started Tug before knowing it was a “spin off” book of the other 2. I WAS LOST! After correcting my mistake, the back story was clear and I understood the character of Tug much better.

Tug has lost the only woman he has ever loved to his older brother and has a VERY hard time dealing with that fact. That and other events in the past books have compounded into some major problems for all the characters. They all seem to have a rubber band effect on each other, pulling away, and being snapped back, to help each other heal, and process the lies they have been fed their entire lives.

Through this book, you see Tug go from a self-centered, self-destructive, conceited, jack ass to a man conflicted with what and who he truly wants in his life. You feel his struggles, want to love him, want to strangle him, and watch him grow as a person. Once he knows what he wants he grabs onto it, and does not let go easily.
He meets Maria early in the book, and she is NOT what I expected at all! She is a spitfire who takes shit from no one while at the same time throws everything she has at those she loves. I fell in love with her personality right from the start. Her character also does a lot of growing and she ends up a much more confident person in the relationship, until Tugs loyalty to her is shown to be undecided.
This book ends in a cliff hanger. I just pray my fingers are strong enough to help me hold on until the next book. I will be impatiently waiting!!

Can I start of by saying, WOW and "What The Tug" just happened!! I could not put this book down once I started reading it. It captivated me and would not let me go until I knew what happened at the end. Now the ending brought out a variety of emotions: happy, sad, excited, confused and upset because I NEED to know what happens next.

Aidan Hunter who goes by Tug is an emotionless, cocky, womanizing man since getting his heart broken by the woman he thought he loved. He refuses to get attached to anyone since he can't have Tori, his brothers soon to be wife. Maria, a single mom trying to make ends meet, doing something she's not proud of but has to put  her son's needs before her pride.

On Tug & Maria's first encounter they are rude to each other and let's just say, after that they can't get out of each other's head. Maria knows she has to because he has, not only the ability to hurt her but also because there are secrets Maria is hiding that complicate things.

Tug worries at first what people will say if they see him involved with Maria, especially since he is the CEO of the family business. He decides that he needs someone on his arm that will please people, especially those on the board of his company. After a while he just can't take it anymore because he is miserable without Maria in his life. He doesn't care what people think of him getting involved with someone like her. He persuades her to date him and promises her that he will never hurt her. Well that is one promise he should never have made.

Can I say, putting this nicely, that I really disliked Tori. She was so wishywashy, mental at times and self centered, especially when she saw Tug finally being happy and she was not the cause of his happiness. When things starts going down you will be left with your mouth open and saying 'What The Heck just happened here!!!'

KJ Bell, thank you for such an amazing story of finding yourself and not being afraid to love with your whole heart!! 5++++stars
