Blog Tour - Southern Boys Series by CA Harms

Title: Forgiving Reed
Series: Southern Boys #1
Author: CA Harms
Publisher: Limitless Publishing
Release Date: October 13, 2014

Kori suffered a great loss, one that left her feeling so desolate and alone, that she believed nothing would ever fill the void…

The only thing that kept her going was the one little piece of joy she still had in her life, her baby boy, Rhett.

She had no choice but to move forward and give her son the best life she could. Which meant moving back home.

Except there was one problem.

Home was where Reed would be…

The man who once held her heart, then shattered it into a million pieces.

Grieving the loss of Rhetts dad, and learning to forgive those who have betrayed her, Kori was battling it all.

But will she ever have the strength to forgive Reed?

This is my first CA Harms book, she's a new-to-me author but seeing those delicious covers for this series, I knew it was one I wanted to try out. I'm so glad I did! The prologue for Forgiving Reed absolutely broke me, and I was hooked, couldn't turn those pages fast enough.

Kori is back in her hometown after a devastating loss. She struggles to overcome her grief with the help of family and friends. The last person she ever wants to see again is Reed, her ex, the man that broke her heart. Reed eases his way back into Kori's life, and hopes to eventually ease his way back into her heart. Will she ever be able to forgive him and get over her broken heart?

Reed is soooooooo SWOON! Oh my goodness, I freaking loved him! And Kori is the perfect mixture of strong and vulnerable. Her emotions, whilst sometimes a little all over the map, really draw you in to hear head. Forgiving Reed is emotional, sweet and sexy all wrapped up in a wonderfully told story. I can't wait to dive into the stories for the rest of the guys.

Forgiving Reed is the first book in the Southern Boys series, it can be read as a standalone, no cliffhanger.

Oh Reed, could you be any better? Unlikely. The cowboy may have made mistakes, but damn, he made up for it. And he had me wanting him, bad.

When Kori's love was taken from her one heartbreaking day, all she had left of him was their beautiful baby boy, Rhett. With no one else to support her, Kori headed home to Georgia, heart sore and wounded from her loss, and still hurting from the betrayal of her high school sweetheart.

She wasn't ready to see Reed again, nor was she willing to forgive him for being the first to break her heart. But with years between then and now, and a new pain taking residence in her heart, will Kori seek comfort in the arms of the man who was once her best friend?

What a sweet, emotional book! I was looking for something quick and easy when I picked this one from my Kindle TBR -- having forgotten the blurb I read so long ago -- and while I finished it in mere hours, it was far from easy. The prologue and first chapter tugged at my heartstrings, had my eyes welling up, tears threatening to spill over. In fact, the entire book kept my emotions on a low simmer, ready to burst forth at any moment.

And while Forgiving Reed never took me all the way there, it was still a book that socked a heck of a punch. CA Harms did a wonderful job of portraying grief and loss, and the anger and lingering side effects that go along with it; you could feel it from the pages, what these people were suffering. She made the characters (including the secondary characters, like Gavin, whose story I am looking forward to) real and intriguing.

Reed was just perfect, with his strength, his maturity, his willingness to be what Kori and Rhett needed. He admitted when he messed up, he worked to make it right. It was refreshing to read about a cowboy that was open with his emotions and feelings. He was an excellent balance for Kori, who I couldn't help but feel for. She went through a lot, and although there was one storyline that felt a little incomplete, I was happy with the closure and HEA she desired, deserved and achieved.

Forgiving Reed is a great start to the Southern Boys series, and I can't wait to see where this new-to-me author takes these stories.

Title: Finding Gavin
Author: CA Harms
Series: Southern Boys #2
Publisher: Limitless Publishing
Release Date: December 30, 2014

Gavin was a broken hearted cowboy from Savanna…

The one she fell for even though he tried to warn her away.

Maria’s entire life had been one rejection after another, always going after things that were just out of reach.

Gavin was no exception.

She wanted him, so desperately…

But life had a way of making things unattainable, at least for her anyway.

Just when things began to change, once again the darkness glooms, and Maria finds that her happy ending may once again be…

Unreachable.

Sweet, a little bit sexy, and super fast <<-- that about sums up the second book in this cute cowboy series from CA Harms.

Maria has felt the sting of abandonment since childhood -- it's a sadly familiar feeling, one that she despises and yet, one she leaves herself open to when she gets involved with Gavin, the handsome but broken new arrival in her small-town of Brooklet.

She feels things for him she shouldn’t, and when unexpected news changes the horizon of their relationship, she has to accept that he's either going to love her or leave...all the while fearing it will be the latter.

Oh my...this book was quite emotional. Like the first book in theSouthern Boys series, Forgiving Reed, Finding Gavin packed some emotional heft and left me feeling more than a little raw. It was a super fast read -- I finished in a less than a couple of hours, helped along by the fact I was kind of desperate to see what happened.

I liked this story. The couple in question, Maria and Gavin, were cute together; perhaps a little too much at times, but so loving in their words, it was hard not to root for them. I wished that Gavin's POV felt a little more....masculine, but I did enjoy his refreshingly open mindset about love and his feelings -- and the way he chose to help someone who needed it so desperately.

There wasn't a lot of external conflict in this story; it felt like it cruised along at a steady pace, never really hitting the peak of emotional (and physical) turmoil, easy in a way that made it a very pleasant and enjoyable book, but with some deeply moving, sad moments. I loved seeing a little more of Kori and Reed from the earlier book, and I'm most happy to know that Colton will be getting his own story also. More of this series is most definitely a good thing.

Finding Gavin is the second book in the Southern Boys series. It can be read standalone. No cliffhanger.

I admit when I finished Forgiving Reed I was so amped up and ready to read Finding Gavin. He totally intrigued me and I thought he was going to have an amazing story to tell.

Maria and Gavin had a bit of a fling. He was badly burned by his ex-wife and wasn't looking for anything serious. Maria knew all that going, in but still held out some hope she would be a game changer for him. Gavin won't give his heart or his trust so easily this time around.

Phew, okay, here goes. Gavin, although sweet, just needed some more edge to his character. He was just meh for me and I could honestly take him or leave him. I feel like some of this story should have brought forth more emotion from me than it did. I just didn't feel it. It was a good story, it just didn't wow me. I am looking forward to seeing what's in store for Colt.

Finding Gavin is the second book in CA Harms Southern Boys series, it can be read as a standalone, but would be best enjoyed reading Forgiving Reed first.

Title: Loving Colt
Author: CA Harms
Series: Southern Boys #3
Publisher: Limitless Publishing
Release Date: February 14, 2015

Alexis and Colt never planned on crossing paths.

Alexis and her three year old daughter were running from their past and Colt was looking for his future.

Neither planning on finding salvation in one another.

One night changed it all and they had no hope of ever being the same again.

Finding a way to make it work when it felt like everything was against them was something they would have to work hard to overcome.

Will Colt be strong enough to handle Alexis's past?

Or will it all be too much?

This is my favorite of the three Southern Boys books! I loved Colt and Alexis.

All Colton knew, when he saw Alexis and her young daughter for the first time, was that he felt the need to protect them. Not realizing that Alex was on the run from a heart-breaking past, Colt was drawn to the woman in a way he never expected.

They weren't supposed to meet, but when fate intervened and brought Alexis to Brooklet, and into Colt's family, they found a chance to find peace and a future...as long as they can survive Alex's painful past.
Yup, Colt is officially my favorite Brooklet boy. He was strong and sweet, kind and caring, and well equipped with those "thrusting thighs" the girls of this series (and this reviewer) were so obsessed with. I liked this story. It was well-rounded and well-paced, and despite the somewhat whirlwind nature of Colt and Alex's relationship, if you really take the time to think over the timeline, it never felt forced, unbelievable or *gasp* insta-lovey.

I find the writing in this series to be a touch feminine and (for lack of a better word, please forgive me) flowery at times, particularly with the male POV, but it doesn’t truly detract from my enjoyment of these books -- particularly not this one. Colt and Alex were likable and the kinds of characters you hope will get a HEA without too much hassle. Yes, they had their moments and battles, and although there were some oh-my-gosh, no!moments, I never truly had to worry over it. Because CA Harms has proved, over the course of this series, reliable when it comes to smile-worthy endings.

And this ending was the best one of all. It was a great round-out to the Southern Boys books, particularly rewarding for those that have also read the first two books, Forgiving Reed andFinding Gavin. While I still feel there are stories to be told here, with a couple of new secondary characters introduced in Loving Colt, if this is the end of the series, it's most definitely ending on a good note.

Loving Colt is the third book in the Southern Boys series and can be read standalone. No cliffhanger.

Looking for a sexy Southern charmer to fall in love with? Look no further than Loving Colt. A sweet good ol' country boy. Well, not boy, he's definitely all man and a helluva man at that.

Alex is on the run from an abusive relationship with her young daughter in tow. A quick pit stop in the town of Brooklet brings her into the life of Colt Thompson. Colt is a do-gooder, along with his family. There's sparks and feelings and chemistry between him and Alex but she's not planning on sticking around or giving her heart to the wrong man again.

I like this series, I liked this book, but I just doesn't give me the wow factor I look for when I want a romance. It's very sugary sweet, a tad insta-lovey and kinda predictable. If those things work for you then you're going to love this book. This is definitely a book series for readers who want a sweet, swoony romance that’s light on angst and drama. What I really enjoyed is reading about the characters that have been in previous books and catching up on their lives.

Loving Colt is book three in the Southern Boys series and could be read as a standalone. Dual POVs. And yes, although the story didn't quite work for me, I'll admit, Colt is the best hero in the series yet.
