Review - Rescuing the Bad Boy by Jessica Lemmon

Title: Rescuing the Bad Boy
Series: Second Chance #2
Author: Jessica Lemmon
Release Date: May 26, 2015

NOT ALL SCARS HEAL

For Donovan Pate, the lake town of Evergreen Cove is a minefield of tough memories—including the day he had to let go of Sofie Martin. Years later, he still can’t forget the taste of her lips and the feel of her killer curves. He knows he’s too damaged, that he should stay away for her own good. But what the head says and the heart wants are two very different things…

Seven years ago, Donovan broke Sofie’s heart. Now her career depends on playing nice in order to pull off the charity fundraiser of the decade. She vows to keep things professional…yet working by his side every day doesn’t make it easy to fight temptation, and it isn’t long before she finds herself falling for this bad boy all over again. But loving Donovan means helping him face his past–so they can fight for a future together.

Yes, this bad boy is definitely good…

Though, at first meeting I hardly thought so. Donovan Pate, on the surface, is the epitome of the bad boy. He is young, brash and all the ladies are attracted to his beautiful smile and sexy banter.

Sofie Martin is not immune and when they work together at the Wharf, sparks fly during every encounter. Despite his nonchalant attitude, Donny is hiding a lot of anger and pain which comes out in, to put it mildly, unproductive ways.

Driven apart, the two separate for years before reuniting in the town where it all began. Forced to face his childhood and the bitter memories he holds, Donny – Donovan – also must deal with what happened with Sofie. Together again, sparks continue to fly as they both look back and deal before moving forward.

I LOVED this book which I devoured in one sitting. Donny was dealing with horrific childhood memories which shaped everything about who he is now as an adult. A feeling of self-worth is something he continues to struggle with and can be seen in every relationship he has.

“Gentle. Caring. Soft. No wonder he’d freaked out.”

Hearing his story had me totally gutted in spots and only liking him more as his soft, caring side peeked through. I loved how Sofie didn’t let Donny off the hook for his behaviour but at the same was this loving, compassionate person who heard with her heart.

Oh yes, the heartstrings were tugged in many spots as the author also threw in rescued puppies, incredible children and supportive families to the mix. Despite the serious theme there was also laughter and love in equal measure.

There is a large group of supporting characters in this book, in this series, so I definitely will have to go back and read what I missed. The hunky gardener’s story is also coming soon – I can’t wait. This was definitely a misty, funny, sexy, shining five-star read!

So apparently I need to move to Evergreen Cove! They have a surplus of super sexy, bad boys just waiting to find their “one” and I am ready!

Rescuing the Bad Boy is the second story set in the Cove and focused on Donny and Sofie. It was such a sweet, steamy, funny story, one I thoroughly enjoyed!

After a horrible one night stand between Donny and Sofie, they are thrown together again seven years later. The chemistry between them was sizzling then, continued to be years later and neither could deny it.

“His gaze was like a caress, like a hand physically touching her skin. It’s always been like this between them. Always. Even when she tried to resist him.”

This story was full of so much emotion. Donny had such a horrific childhood and watching him figure out how to let anyone in, how to love, how to feel deserving was incredible. And Sofie was such a kind-hearted, caring person, full of so much hope and belief. She was a perfect match to Donnie, even when he pushed her away.

“Love is about getting what you don’t deserve.”

I loved that we were able to see so many of the secondary characters from the first book; Evan, Asher, and Charlie as well as some new ones, Connor and Faith. Their friendships are amazing!

If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh, cry, cheer and love, look no further. Jessica has a way of making you feel like you are part of the crew. I look forward to Connor’s story next!
